Nandu smashes ton in six-wicket win

National U17 batsman continued a remarkable run scoring another century to give Kaieteur Cricket Club a six- wicket win over Hurricanes Saturday.

League’s Premier Division at Dixie 407 Ground, Canada, Kaieteur stormed to their fifth victory with

Nandu bringing up his second ton to add to his two half centuries in the five innings he has played so far.

Hurricanes won the toss and opted to bat, posting 269 for nine from their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Kaieteur eased to 272 for four in 47.2 overs.

Nandu piloted the chase with an unbeaten top score of 123 from just 129 balls. The right handed batsman’s innings was decorated with 14 boundaries including one six.

After the match, Nandu spoke to Stabroek Sport briefly and said that he was proud to score another century but was most of all happy to see his team over the line.

The teenager added that he aspires to score a double century before the season ends.

Nandu was supported by Theron Ramlall who made an 89-ball 66, laced with five fours before he was run out.

Mehendra Jaipersaud chipped in with 30 while extras accounted for 24 runs. Ameer Hamza, Mustafa Khan and Saad Tariq picked up one wicket a piece.

Earlier, Miguel Nandu led with the ball after picking up two for 35 and was complemented by Nathan Permau who returned two for 60. Hurricanes’ top order all got starts with Usman Holder top scoring with 51 from 49 balls, highlighted by eight fours and one six.

Holder shared a solid partnership with Oziar Qaiser who made 45 from 51 balls. Other contributions came from Haris Mohsin and Uzair Chaudhry who scored 30 runs each.

Kaieteur sits at the top of Conference B with 52 points with Redhawks in second on 33 points and Hurricanes and Canadian Eagles sitting on 21 and 11 points respectively.
