Trans Guyana to fly five times per week to Barbados

-

Local airline operator, Trans Guyana Airways (TGA), yesterday announced that it will be flying to Barbados five times a week starting from November 1.

Already providing flights to Suriname, Trans Guyana Airways is seeking to expand its operations by filling the void created in the lucrative Guyana/Barbados route by the Antiguan-based LIAT Airlines, which is currently being restructured.

Trans Guyana is currently offering flights on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays on the route.

In a press statement, the airline stated, “Beginning November 1st, 2020, Trans Guyana Airways will introduce 5 weekly flights to Grantley Adams International, Barbados, from Eugene F. Correia International, Guyana (EFCIA).”

TGA will use a 19-seater Beechcraft 1900D.

The flights are scheduled for Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with departure from EFCIA at 10am and arrival at Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) at 11.45am. On Sundays and Mondays, departures are scheduled for 6pm from GAIA with arrival at 7.45pm at EFCIA. For the remaining days, departures will occur at 5.30 pm from Barbados and arrive in Guyana at 7.15pm.

Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, Lt Col Egbert Field ( Ret’d), yesterday explained that the airlines recently applied to operate commercially between the two countries. In the application, the airlines explained that it was seeking to fill the gap and provide a service to passengers travelling on the Guyana /Barbados route.

Trans Guyana Airways explained that these flights will not only facilitate travel to and from Barbados, but offer connections with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air Canada, American Airlines, Caribbean Airlines, InterCaribbean, and Air Antilles. Interested persons can contact the airline’s commercial department by telephone at 592- 222- 2525 or email commercial1@ transguyana.net for bookings and inquiries.

Passengers will be allowed checked luggage of 50lbs and hand luggage of 5lbs. Excess weight will be subject to an overweight charge per pound.

Further, passengers have been advised that they are required to undergo a PCR COVID-19 test prior to entering both Barbados and Guyana.

“All passengers are required to present a negative PCR Test taken within 72 hours of departure,” the airline said while noting that it can facilitate the appointment for a PCR test at an additional fee for passengers departing from Ogle. The fee is pegged at US$80.

Subsequent to the closure of the airports, Trans Guyana Airways began operating repatriation flights between Barbados and Guyana.
