Woman on trial for hiring man to kill husband

-

The trial of Beverley Persaud who police say contracted her now co-accused Oswald Junior Yaw to kill her husband, is scheduled to commence this morning at the High Court in Georgetown.

The jointly-charged duo was indicted yesterday morning before Justice Navindra Singh and a 12-member mixed jury.

Persaud is accused of hiring Yaw to kill her husband—block maker Nathan Andrew Persaud, whose motionless body was discovered on September 10th, 2015 at his Lot 66 Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home.

They have both pleaded not guilty to the capital indictment.

In her opening address to the jury, Prosecutor Tiffini Lyken said that Persaud’s body was found at the Herstelling property where he was living at the time, having previously moved out of his matrimonial home.

She said that an autopsy later revealed that he had died of haemorrhage and shock due to multiple injuries.

Lyken said that following police investigations, Beverley called “Bev” and Yaw also known as “Meow” and “Jason” were arrested and charged with murder.

The trial is set to officially begin at 9 this morning when witnesses will commence their testimonies.

About 20 witnesses are expected to testify, half of whom are police officers.
