WBCA to conduct education drive from tomorrow
The West Berbice Cricket Association’s Cricket Development Sub-Committee will host a series of education drives beginning tomorrow.
This is according to WBCA president David Black.
“With the rain facing us and the COVID-19 [pandemic] that [is] forcing the cricket off the field, the Association has decided to utilize the time to have indoor sessions with the clubs that recently established junior teams,” Black told Stabroek Sport.
The clubs that have established teams at the under-15, under-17 and under-19 levels include Paradise Challengers, Bush Lot United, Achievers, Cotton Tree Die Hard and Bath.
The first session will be at the Bath Community Centre under strict COVID-19 guidelines and will be conducted by veteran coach, Michael Hyles and Level One coach, Shamal Angel. The session will run from 08.30 hours to noon.
Black, who has been WBCA president for the last 12 years, noted that this is the first time after many years that the clubs have been successful in finding teams at these levels to benefit from the introductory session.
“After not having any cricket for some time now, the clubs kept calling to find out what’s going on, so after some discussion with coach Hyles and the members of the committee, we have decided that to keep them focused in the line of the game, the newcomers to the sports would start from the basics,” he said.
Black stressed that the session will be held in the pavilion to allow social distancing and players are reminded that face masks must be worn and they must walk with their own water bottles and sanitizers.
