Work continuing to make Rose Hall factory operational

The government’s current focus on the sugar industry is making the Rose Hall Factory operational and a single bid was last Thursday received to fix the roof of the boiler house of that estate.

With an Engineer’s estimate of $26.4M, Memorex Enterprise was the lone bidder for the project and submitted a bid pegged at $31m.

Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha on Sunday told this newspaper that government is forging ahead with plans to reopen closed estates and of primary focus is the one at Rose Hall.

“We are not backing down from reopening but what I have said is we are doing it in a phased approach.

“The main focus now is Rose Hall then Enmore and Skeldon. We have put out Expressions of Interest we are looking at too,” he added.

The Agriculture Minister said that he will this week give a comprehensive overview of the sector and update on works at all the estates.

Thursday also saw the opening of bids for the supply of Line hardware for Distribution Network Upgrade in St. Cuthbert’s Mission, Region 4, the Supply of Line hardware and Construction of a Distribution Network for Kato, Region 9.

Bids for the supply delivery and Installation of infrastructure Works for Data and Telephone Nodes for the Ministry of Finance Annex Building and Lot 2: Supply, Delivery and Installation of 15KVA Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) Environmental Monitoring Pr were also received.

The names of the respective project, companies and their bids are shown in the table below.
