Anderson inspires RHT Namilco Thunderbolt Flour to victory
-Beats RHCCC by eight wickets in RHT 51st anniversary match
Former West Indies under-19 batsman, Kevlon Anderson produced a fine innings to ensure Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour defeat Rose Hall Canje Cricket Club by eight wickets in a celebratory match to commemorate the 51st anniversary of Rose Hall Town.
The first-division T20 match was played at Area H Ground Sunday where the visitors won the toss and batted.
Rose Hall Canje posted 84 all out in 19.5 overs and the hosts needed just eight overs to reach 85 for two.
It was Anderson who piloted the chase with an unbeaten 51, laced with four fours and four sixes. After Kevin Sinclair was stumped off the second ball of the innings off of left-arm spinner, Mark Sampson, (1-34), he added 62 runs with Jason Sinclair who stroked two fours in his unbeaten cameo of 15. Junior Sinclair also chipped in with 12 before being trapped leg before wicket to pacer Zahir Hussain (118).
Earlier, Rose Hall Canje displayed their ring rust after playing their first competitive match in nearly six months as they lost
Ravindra Beharry in the first over.
Sasenarine Sukhu top scored with 22 and added 30 for the third wicket with Eon Andrews (14). Hussain supported with 12.
Captain, Shawn Perreira showed his class, picking up 415 from four overs of legspin while offs[inner Junior Sinclair bagged 2-14.
Kevin Sinclair, Matthew Pottaya and Keith Simpson each picked up a wicket.
The victory ensured that the home team won the Rose Hall Town 51st Anniversary T20 Trophy. The township, Guyana’s smallest, attained the status of being a town on September 20,1970 and the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club is assisting the town council to coordinate a series of activities to mark the anniversary.
Anderon received a trophy for being adjudged the Player-ofthe-Match while the runner-up carried a trophy and a box of red cricket balls compliments of the RHT Namilco Cricket team.
The winners received the championship trophy and a cash prize compliments of West Indies player Kevin Sinclair.
RHTYSC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, at the simple presentation ceremony, congratulated the champions and stated that his club was very pleased to be associated with the township, which, he said, has been developed into the financial capital of
Berbice. He committed the club and its 12 cricket teams to assisting the town council as much as possible to make a positive difference. Mayor Dave Budhu expressed gratitude to the management of the RHTY&SC for the major role they were playing
in transforming the township and the assistance they have provided to his council. Members of the Namilco team also took the opportunity to donate several items to the council including street sign, plaques, framed certificates and national flags.
