Frustrated Mom says GFF impeding daughter’s opportunity for tryout with English outfit

- By Duncan Saul

Finola Parvattan-Trim, mother of national U17 forward Jalade Trim, has lambasted the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) for its failure to provide match footage of her daughter, which is being requested by an English junior scout for a possible international trial.

According to Trim during an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday, the local governing body is yet to be forthcoming with the requested footage and she is frustrated by the current situation which is impeding the possibility of her daughter securing a vital opportunity via a trial with an English outfit.

“We are trying to get footage from the federation and the federation claiming they have no footage,” she told Stabroek Sports yesterday.

“For the past seven weeks we have been trying to get the footage from them. When I ask, I am told the TD (Technical Director) has it. I just don’t bother anymore because I don’t know where more to turn to. A Manchester United junior scout is interested in her and it was facilitated by Paula Liverpool. She was instrumental in setting up this arrangement,” she explained.

The frustrated mother added, “The footage of Jalade is for a scout in England and because they know that, it feels like they will never give the footage. I think they are doing it intentionally, like they want to stifle her. You [GFF] are holding onto the footage, why are you not giving it? If you have her interest at heart you would have already given the footage,” she declared.

Jalade Trim, now 16, , burst onto the scene as a 12-year-old starting forward for Guyana at the 2017 Concacaf Girls U17 Caribbean Qualifiers on home soil. She also featured in the 2019 edition of the aforesaid championship.

National appearances were also recorded in the 2019 edition of the CFU Girls U14 Challenge Series in Grenada, as well as the 2019 Inter-Guiana Games hosted in Suriname being the 2017 Junior Female Player of the Year winner.

She also featured as one of two

Guyanese representatives at the Gazprom International Social Children’s Programme, ‘Football for Friendship, at the Spartak Football Academy, Moscow, Russia in 2018. Trim is currently training with the locally-based contingent of the Lady Jaguars programme for the Concacaf Girls U17 Championship in Florida, USA from October 20 to November 1.

According to Parvattan-Trim, Jalade has represented the country on several occasions both locally and overseas.

She said that it is highly improbable for the GFF not to have match footage of her exploits which is being requested by the scout.

“Jalade has left this country several times and played at Leonora, in Curacao, Suriname, Florida for Guyana and you don’t have nothing. This is hampering Jalade by not giving the footage so she can get a possible trial in England,” ParvattanTrim said.

Efforts to contact GFF General Secretary Ian Alves for a comment proved futile. Calls to his cellular phone went unanswered up to press time.
