Region Two added to list with lowest inoculation rates

-

As the Minister of Health reported that authorities expect to see more severe COVID-19 cases in areas with low vaccination rates, he also revealed that Region Two has now become one of the areas with the lowest rates in the country.

This was disclosed during Dr Frank Anthony’s daily COVID-19 update where he mentioned that while there are COVID19 cases countrywide, authorities continue to see a high number of cases in Region Three and as such that remains one of the areas of concern.

“Well in every region we do have cases, the places where we have seen more cases would be in Region Three,” he said. To this end the minister noted that there are approximately 170 COVID-19 cases spread across the communities of Tuschen, Parika, Parfaite Harmonie,

Pouderoyen and Cornelia Ida.

Further, with regard to Region Four on the East Bank of Demerara, authorities are still seeing cases in Diamond, Grove and Herstelling areas with some 67 cases in total. And on the East Coast of Demerara, the community with the most cases is Strathspey with 14.

In Georgetown there are some 102 cases distributed in Sophia, Kitty, Campbellville and Cummings Lodge. Some other areas mentioned by the minister are New Amsterdam in Region Six with 28 cases and a few communities in

Region Ten.

“So these are the areas that we are monitoring. What we will probably eventually see is the areas where there is high level of vaccinations we will see a decline in the cases as we have been seeing in some of the regions,” he iterated.

According to Dr Anthony, the regions currently with the lowest vaccination rates are regions Ten, Eight and Two. These low rates are for both first and second doses and the authorities expect that cases coming from these regions may be more severe ones that require hospitalisation.
