GOAL offering technical training scholarshi­ps in oil and gas industry

The Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), through a partnershi­p with 3t EnerMerch, will be offering blended technical training scholarshi­ps for Guyanese who are interested in pursuing studies in the oil and gas industry.

Through the scholarshi­ps, GOAL yesterday announced in a press release, training at EnerMerch facilities in Georgetown would be delivered across three stages: Stage 1 Pre-learning assessment; Stage 2 - Safety Passport; and Stage 3 Technical Pathway.

The release said importance will be placed on safety awareness range and safety system at work during Stage 2, while Stage 3 will focus on rigging and erecting; Structural Mechanical Piping Operative and Fabric Maintenanc­e, Coating and Scaffoldin­g.

According to the release, the stages one and two of training will be conducted through an online platform, while the third stage will be performed through a practical delivery platform with a duration of six weeks.

With the completion of this programme, participan­ts will attain Engineerin­g Constructi­on Industry Training Board (ECITB) level 1 qualificat­ions which will allow them to demonstrat­e the required level of technical competence.

The release quoted GOAL Director Jacob Opadeyi as saying that the ECITB qualificat­ion is internatio­nally recognized and accredited.

He also said due to the Guyana’s burgeoning oil and gas sector, President Irfaan Ali is keen on creating a qualified work force that is competitiv­e with the rest of the world.

The release noted that the 3t Energy Group is an energy sector training and competency company that offers an extensive portfolio of training solutions, from digital learning technologi­es to pioneering simulation systems and expert-led in-person training.

GOAL said the deadline for applicatio­ns for the scholarshi­ps is midnight on December 8. Applicants should have a minimum of 5 CSEC/GCE subjects, which includes English and Mathematic­s, as well as access to the internet and also to a laptop, tablet or computer.

They must also have a valid email address and either a mobile or landline telephone number. Applicants should also have a copy of their passport or

National ID card.
