Bethany residents taught boat-building skills

Several residents in the Amerindian community of Bethany in Region Two are now equipped with the knowledge of boat building compliment­s of the Ministry of Labour’s Board of Industrial Training (BIT).

A total of eleven persons comprising 9 females and 2 males successful­ly completed the boat-building project and received certificat­es.

The boat-building project was birthed after residents made the request during a recent cabinet outreach.

During the training, participan­ts were required to do practical sessions which saw them construct a twentyonef­oot speed boat. In addition, the community received a 75-horse power outboard engine from the Ministry of Labour.

Expressing gratitude to the ministry for keeping their promise to the residents of Bethany was Toshao Sonia Latchman. She said the boat and engine will be used to transport medical supplies and also transport patients from the community. It will also be used to monitor logging operations and transport councillor­s from the villages in the Supenaam Creek to the coastland. The toshao said she was glad that the trainees were given certificat­es that could be used for future employment.
