GWI restarting disconnection campaign for Christmas season

-

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) on Friday announced that it will be recommencing its countrywide disconnection campaign for the Christmas season.

In a statement, GWI said the campaign, dubbed ‘Let it Flow and Keep the Glow,’ would run from December 1 to December 31 and is targeting customers with outstanding balances as well as current charges.

In order to avoid disconnection, customers were urged by GWI to settle all payments at any of its offices or authorised payment agencies countrywide, including SurePay, MMG, Bill Express, Post Offices, Scotiabank, Republic Bank, GBTI and Citizens Bank. “Once disconnected, GWI cannot guarantee reconnection within seven working days,” the company noted.

The statement noted that to accommodate customers, GWI has extended its opening hours beyond weekdays and will be opened to facilitate payments on December 4, 11 and 18 from 09:00hrs to 14:00hrs.

According to the company, it has recorded a significant increase in its water production and usage since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in a much higher production cost. “Revenues however, have not been consistent with this increased consumption,” it noted, while adding that as a result it is forced to roll out the disconnection campaign with the aim of recovering its operational costs.

The company said customers can query their account balances by contacting GWI’s Customer Call Centre on 2278701, WhatsApp 620-1667 or their local GWI office.
