Homeless youth gets community service after battery theft

-

A homeless youth has been ordered to serve three months of community service after he admitted to stealing a $60,000 battery.

Naresh Bhola, 22, who occasionally works at the Bourda Market, admitted to stealing the battery in order to sell it and buy food.

He was brought before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he admitted to the charge that between November 23 and November 24, at Regent Street, while in the company of another, he stole the battery, which was the property of Shazam Ibrahim.

The Police Prosecutor told the court that given that it is the Christmas season, the court could be lenient when deciding on a penalty for the first-time offender. The Magistrate, guided by the Prosecutor, ordered Bhola to serve three months of community service. Bhola is expected to go to the Georgetown

Magistrates’ Courts every Monday and Friday to complete his community service.
