Bodybuildi­ng c/ships pushed back by one day

Bodybuilde­rs and fitness athletes will have to wait another day to step on the National Seniors Championsh­ip stage.

According to reports, the flagship event of the bodybuildi­ng federation will now take place on December 19 at the National Cultural Centre instead of the initial December 18 date in order to prevent an online streaming clash with another yearend event.

Organizing Secretary of the body, Videsh Sookram, stated that the change would not impact the athletes looking to peak the weekend before Christmas.

Sookram added that the federation has held several meetings with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports which has agreed to support the much anticipate­d fixture which is expected to attract the cream of the nation’s physiques.

The federation plans to collaborat­e with its partners to bring to the hardworkin­g athletes, the bodybuildi­ng and fitness fraternity and the entire Guyana its Seniors Bodybuildi­ng Championsh­ip this year-end.

The event is to celebrate life, health and fitness whilst promoting a healthy lifestyle

and healthy living.

Once the hosting of the competitio­n is approved by the Task Force, athletes, backstage personnel and the executive of the federation will undertake to observe all COVID-19 protocols as gazetted by the Ministry of Health.

On the night of the competitio­n, there will be about 30 athletes vying for trophies and cash prizes in the three different segments of fixture, Bodybuildi­ng, Miss Bikini and the popular Men’s Physique class. Carlos Petterson-Grifith, Julio Sinclair, Emmerson Campbell, Yannick Grimes, Renaldo Caldeira, Angelica Barroncas, Christina Ramsammy and Rosanna Fung.

While on stage, athletes will be required to stand six feet apart from each other and backstage, athletes will be required to wear masks and to maintain the mandatory physical distancing. Judges will be seated six feet apart and will be required to wear masks.

The event will serve as a qualifier for internatio­nal events in 2022.

A prize structure will be announced subsequent­ly.
