Jagan saw himself as a national leader who cared about all Guyanese

The recent article by Baytoram Ramharack is very illuminating. Ramharack misses the main aspects of Cheddi Jagan’s political life and the endearment all Guyanese have for Cheddi’s efforts to make their lives better; Hindus and Muslims admired and loved Jagan not because he was religious or “culturally correct”, but because he was incorruptible and downright honest. Ramharack failed to recognize that Jagan saw himself as a national leader who cared about all Guyanese, including the AfroGuyanese whose labour and industry paved the way for all East Indian successes up to this day. Ramharack says Jagan didn’t know Guyana’s history, but I grew up with the great man, and I remember him teaching me about Cuffy, who led the only true revolution against tyranny in Guyana. Editor, I can go on and on to undermine Ramharack’s absurdities, but I prefer not to. For 95% of Guyanese, from the young to old, from Afro to Indo, from rich to poor - empty minds do not exist for Jagan; instead, they love him to this day.
