Sadeo contributes to cricket gear project

-

Former Port Mourant Cricket Club’s prolific opening batsman and captain, Rajendra Sadeo, is the latest person to make a contribution to the cricket gear for young and promising cricketers in Guyana project.

The current West Indies Over-50 player, who also represented Berbice at the senior level and Guyana at the Under-19 level, donated a bat, a pad and an arm guard.

The gear will be used for distribution for this initiative which is a joint effort by Kishan Das of the USA and Anil Beharry of Guyana.

The organisers expressed gratitude to Sahadeo for his assistance and he responded by saying that he was happy to be part of this project and give back to the youths in the country of his birth.

The project’s aim is to provide cricket gear free of cost to young and talented cricketers in Guyana.

The project is also seeking new and used cricket gear which will then be distributed across the length and breadth of Guyana. So far, the project has received $40,000 cash, two cricket boots, 12 pairs of batting pads, 15 bats, nine pairs of batting gloves, one thigh pad, one arm guard and four cricket bags.

Some 19 young players from Essequibo Coast, Pomeroon and the East Canje area and Lower East Coast, Berbice have already benefited along with two clubs in Pomeroon which have benefited from two used bats.

Rose Hall Estate CC were the recipients of a set of stumps and bails.

Talent spotting is being done across Guyana along with guidance from club leaders in identifying players who should be in school and disciplined. Players above school age will also be considered.

Das and Beharry said they wanted to thank all who have contributed so far.

Anyone interested in contributing can contact Anil Beharry on 623 6875 or Kishan Das on 1 718 664 0896.
