Fruta Coinquerors hammer Moruca 8-0
Fruta Conquerors sent a strong warning to the field in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Guyana National Women’s Football Association (GNWFA) Super-16 Women’s Festival, hammering Moruca 8-0 yesterday at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Victorious head-coach Wayne St. Jules during a post-match comment said that he was very pleased with the performance of his young charges, adding that the expectation and objective is to clinch the title.
He explained, “It was a very good performance, a lot of passing and shooting from the team. We controlled the game and had about 75% possession of the ball. Going forward, we just have to work on our defense a little more. We expect to win the tournament.”
Any semblance of a contest was essentially extinguished as the youthful Tucville based outfit recorded five goals in the first half. The trident of national players Shamya Daniels, Sandra Johnson and Jalade Trim were the chief destroyers of the Moruca backline, with Amada McKenzie also finding the back of the net.
Johnson opened her team’s account in the sixth minute with a curling free-kick from outside the penalty box into the top corner. McKenzie quickly made it 2-0 in the eighth minute, uncorking a powerful effort into the far corner from just outside the 18 yard area
Daniels, who would eventually record a hat-trick in the match, blasted a flat right foot strike into the lower right corner from inside the penalty box to push the score to 3-0 in the 36th minute.
Johnson made her presence felt once more four minutes later to complete her brace, as she slotted past the goalkeeper from inside the area, evading several challenges in the process of the conversion.
The first half demolition was completed five minutes later, as Daniels sealed her second of the match, thumping a right footed strike from 21 yards out in the centre of the field into the back of the net.
The goals continued to rain in the second stanza, as Trim got into the scoring act in the 58th minute, racing onto a through pass inside the 18 yard box, before slotting past the advancing goalkeeper.
Daniels then completed her hat-trick in the 61st minute, finishing beyond the goalkeeper, after cutting into the penalty area. A 87th minute conversion from Trim completed the result, as the Kwakwani native latched onto a through pass and slotted her effort beyond the goalkeeper during a one on one situation.
The tournament continues today at the same venue with another matchup. GT Panthers will oppose Mahdia at 15:00hrs. The event will conclude on January 2nd at the GFF National Training Centre.
The winner of the tournament will now receive $500,000 and the championship trophy. On the other hand, the runner-up will pocket $300,000. The third and fourth place finishers will collect $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
The other competing teams are Guyana Police Force (GPF), Orealla, Santos, New Amsterdam (NA) United, Foxy Ladies, Lethem, Bartica and Wakapow.
