State will fund UG degree for all regional police commanders President

-

From next year, all branch and regional Commanders of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) will be required to pursue a degree or masters programme at the University of Guyana (UG) at the expense of the Government.

“... For every person that is a commander of a branch or division, we would pay in full for improvement in their education. Every single rank who is a commander at a branch or a district level, you must pursue a degree,” Ali told the ranks during his address at the GPF’s annual Christmas breakfast which was held on Tuesday.

This initiative, Ali said is being implemented so as to ensure the ranks are equipped with the education needed to perform their duties.

“We have to ensure we give you the strategic tool and education is the most important strategic tool,” he said.

Every year, the GPF presents millions in cash and prizes to hundreds of its ranks for their outstanding performance throughout the year.

Ali further announced that the top 50 awardees for this year will also be given the same educational opportunities. “We must not only have the highly talented police force. We must have a highly trained police force with educational tools that is second to none in this region,” he said.

The President pledged Government’s continued support to the force.

“….Those who have negative attitude and those who seem unwilling to be part of the future of this country by stepping up your responsibility sadly you will be left behind…. The vessel will move without you. There is a place for every single person,” Ali said.
