Jai Narine Singh moved the motion to formally seek full independence

Jai Narine Singh, the first General Secretary of the People’s National Congress (PNC) broke away to form the Guianese Independence Movement party and successfully moved the motion to formally seek full independence for British Guiana from Great Britain in our (limited) parliament. The motion was seconded by Martin Fredricks; this was assented to reluctantly by the two ‘fathers’ of the nation comrades Burnham and Jagan, who had urged Singh not to bring the motion as they thought it was premature.

Mr. Granger can impute whatever motive his limited perspective allows to Jai Narine Singh’s actions, but he (Granger) cannot change Hansard

nor actual history. Suffice to say that when Guyana achieve her independence, Jai Narine Singh retired from political life content that his ambition was achieved, thankfully he wrote a book about his experiences, and therefore his story is preserved and insulated (Guyana: Democracy Betrayed,1996)

In my opinion, Mr. Granger’s refusal to accept that his government fell on the 21st December 2018 and the will of the people as expressed through their democratic right to vote on the 2nd March 2020, has done more damage to the PNC than all the defections and breakaways combined and then some.
