West Berbice cricket elections set for January 9

The West Berbice Cricket Associatio­n (BCA) is set to host its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on January 9, with elections of office bearers being on the agenda.

The AGM is slated for the Fort Wellington Secondary School at 13.00 hours, according to a release from the Associatio­n.

Also on the agenda is the President’s report and a special announceme­nt.

The posts to be filled include President, Vice-President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer.

Longstandi­ng and incumbent President, David Black told this newspaper that he intends to seek re-election to the helm of the Associatio­n. He has been heading the Associatio­n for a decade. He has also served as Secretary under former Presidents, Randolph Michael and Edwin Joseph.

Also seeking re-election are Carol Nurse as Secretary and Stembiso Williams as Assistant Secretary.

Among the incumbents are Danraj Hamish (Vice-President), Derrick McCalmon (Treasurer) and Carlston Nurse (Assistant Treasurer).

Black told Stabroek Sport that cricket developmen­t as well as the identifica­tion of eight senior players who would transition into player/coaches were on the front burner of the Associatio­n under the late coach Michael Hyles-Franco, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans were put on pause.

The clubs that will be casting their votes are Shieldstow­n, Blairmont, No. 5

Monedderlu­st, No. 8, Bath, Hopetown United, Achievers, Bush Lot United, Rainbow Generation and Paradise Challenge.
