Festive tree:

This unusually shaped almond nut tree at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara is looking quite beautiful with Christmas lights strung across it. The tree is located in front of the home/business-place of Danny also known as ‘Shankar John.’ He said it has been attracting a lot of attention. His father planted the tree some 31 years ago so he “kept taking care of it…” At one time during a road construction, the authorities wanted to chop it down. But he was determined to save it and “I got a chainsaw and cut it to suit. He trained it to grow inwards so as to ensure it was out of the way and that was how it got the shape. The tree also serves as a seat sometimes.
