West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer and his former West Indies under-19 teammate, Tevin Imlach, were among the runs on the second day of the ongoing Guyana Harpy Eagles Best v Best four-day match at Albion Community Center Ground, Berbice yesterday.

Hetmyer scored an unbeaten 69 while Imlach chipped in with 45 not out for Keemo Paul’s XI after Johnson’s XI, resuming the day on 188 for five, were bundled out for 254 by lunch.

The last two sessions comfortably belonged to Keemo Paul’s XI who closed the day on 154 for two, 100 runs behind.

Hetmyer, the 25-year-old Young Warriors Cricket Club left-hander, joined Imlach at the crease and forged a 98-run third wicket partnership.

He struck three boundaries on his way to an unbeaten 69 from 110 balls while Imlach carved out three boundaries during his 134-ball 45 not out stay at the crease.

Imlach had earlier added 50 for the second wicket with Mavindra Dindyal, who made 29 before being trapped by left-arm spinner, Kelvin Umroa (1-23). That partnership compensated for the early loss of Kevlon Anderson (05) who was bowled by Keon Joseph (1-9) with just six runs on the board.

Earlier, at the start of the day, Akshaya Persaud could only add seven to his overnight score before he was dismissed 15 balls into the day’s play by Sylus Tyndall (227) for 61 after facing 165 balls and hitting four boundaries.

His dismissal effectively ended a 51-run stand for the eighth wicket with Clinton Pestano who shifted gear and went on to make 69 from 137 balls. The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club all-rounder blasted four fours and two sixes before being dismissed by Paul (2-20).

Antony Adams was left unbeaten on nine while Umroa failed to score, trapped leg before wicket by his Albion clubmate, Veerasammy Permaul (2-67).

The match continues today at 10.00 hours.
