DeSinco Trading under-12 chess tourney on this Saturday

Fresh from receiving sponsorshi­p for their online players from the Demerara Distillers Limited, the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) will stage a one-day online competitio­n for players less than 12 years of age.

Recently, DDL sponsored the cost for online training for some 66 junior players under the auspices of the GCF.

DDL’s sponsorshi­p to the tune of $210,000 allows the junior players to participat­e on Chesskid.com.

Saturday’s national under-12 Rapid one-day tournament is being sponsored by DeSinco Trading Limited and will take place Saturday on the Tornelo.com platform from 2pm.

DeSinco Trading’s sponsorshi­p of $150,000 will allow the GCF to purchase trophies and other prizes.

According to a press release from the GCF, the tournament will be played over seven rounds using the Swiss pairing format.

“The tournament features seven rounds of play using the FIDE Swiss Pairing System with a time control of 15 minutes + 2 second increment after each move and will be open to

all Guyanese chess players born after January 1st, 2010. Non-Guyanese nationals who have

been living in Guyana for over one year are also eligible to participat­e.

Interested competitor­s can register on guyanaches­s.org. All registrati­ons must be completed on Tornelo.com by Thursday, January 13, 2021,” the release from the GCF stated.

GCF vice-president, Anand Raghunauth, thanked the company for its sponsorshi­p and said the GCF looked forward to a continued successful partnershi­p in the future.

Saturday’s tournament will see play in an Open and a girls’ division with prizes for the top three players in each category.

Additional­ly, prizes will also be awarded to the best under-10 player and the best player under eight years of age.

Among the players expected to be in action this Saturday are Nicholas and Alexander Zhang, Anaya Lall, Mahir Rajkumar and Arysh Raghunauth.

There will be no entrance fee for GCF members but non members will be required to pay an entrance fee of $2000.
