Job advertisements and the curious lack of attention to detail

- Dear Editor,

One cannot help but be titillated by the existing level of the human resources management capabilities of some agencies, as portrayed in ‘Vacancies Notice’ seen in the daily press. There is this curious lack of attention to detail – which at times must cause some confusion in the minds of anxious applicants. For example one notice offers ‘job/career’ opportunities for:

● A single Banksman; and

● Several Riggers

The same notice offers ‘job/career’ opportunities as Trainees ‘motivated to lead a team’. Hopefully they would be trained to do so. It leaves one to wonder about the related job description/s to be utilised for the subsequent interview/s and about the scores to be applied in respect of qualifications and other specified capabilities. But the above is still a superior effort to another’s invitation to various OPERATORS

to call on WHATSAPP for whomever WANTS them. This means that the applicant must borrow someone else’s cell phone if he/she does not own one. The problem will come, however, if there are going to be virtual interviews. But the person who could look forward to a good remuneration package is the LAYOUT OPERATOR who is required to ‘work a shift-system, weekends and holidays’. There is actually no assurance how long the second shift would last, for it is shown as follows: ‘5pm - ???’ which might mean that the ‘Operator’ may have to ‘Layout’ some time during this shift. For certain, this employee can look forward to earning a handsome package once paid at the legally specified overtime rates. This will be my choice. Except I would be so tired, particularly during holiday weeks that I would have to ‘layout’.

Sincerely,

Conscientious Observer
