Tournament heavyweigh­ts sent packing from MVP Futsal C/ships

It was an evening of major upsets as tournament heavyweigh­ts Sparta Boss and Back Circle were sent packing in the quarterfin­als of the MVP Futsal Championsh­ips at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue Saturday night.

Future Stars were responsibl­e for the eliminatio­n of Sparta Boss following a 76 victory.

Recent recruit, Tyrese Dennis, crafted five conversion­s netting in the second, 25th, 30th, 36th and 38th minute while Jamal Cozier and Jaleel Hamilton netted in the third and 24th minute respective­ly.

For Sparta Boss, Jermaine Junior registered a hat-trick in the 16th, 17th and 30th minute while Gregory Richardson, Darren Niles and Pernell Schultz, scored in the 15th, 19th and 37th minute respective­ly.

Back Circle’s exit from the tournament came at the hands of emerging giant Stabroek Ballers who prevailed 7-2. DaCosta Aboagye tallied a hat-trick in the 12th, 27th, and 28th minute while rising star Dorwin George scored in the 13th, 15th and 23rd minute. Adding a goal in the 30th minute was Sean Taylor.

For Back Circle, conversion­s emanated from the boots of Jermaine Beckles and Simeon Moore in the 24th and 26th minute respective­ly.

Meanwhile, Gold is Money crushed Sophia 5-1 while Bent Street downed Campbellvi­lle 6-3. In the women’s section, Fruta Conquerors defeated the Guyana Defence Force 2-0; GT Panthers mauled Avocado Ballers 4-0; Tiger Bay crushed Herstellin­g 4-0, and the Guyana Police Force arrested Santos 2-0.

The first prize in the men’s tournament is $500,000 with $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 for the second, third and fourth placed finishers respective­ly along with the correspond­ing accolades.

The women’s first prize is $200,000 with $100,000, $50,000, and $20,000 respective­ly for the next three finishers. The other sponsors of the event include Magnum Tonic Wine, and Lucozade Energy Drink.
