Titanic clash expected as St Pius battles Enterprise

A titanic clash will decide the 2022 edition of the Courts Pee Wee Boys U11 Football Championsh­ips when two-time winners St. Pius battles emerging force and tournament favourite Enterprise at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue today at 15:00hrs.

Statistica­lly, the fixture is a meeting of unequivoca­lly the best teams in the tournament. St. Pius, who are in their fourth finals appearance, following a commanding 5-0 win over Marian Academy in the semi-final, possess the best defensive record in the tournament.

The Middle Road based institutio­n have only conceded once which transpired in their hard-fought 2-1 win in the quarterfin­als over a dangerous Redeemer outfit. Their defensive record is further solidified as they have registered two clean sheets.

Offensivel­y, St. Pius are equally formidable, as they possess the second best scoring record. They have tallied 22 goals during their campaign, 11 of which have occurred in the knockout section, which is a tournament leading stat.

Enterprise, who will be making their second appearance in the final following their 2-1 semi-final defeat of North Georgetown, are the best scoring team in the history of the tournament, after recording a mammoth 32 conversion­s, 24 of which occurred in the group stage.

In the eliminatio­n section, they have tallied eight goals which resulted in wins against Soesdyke and Timehri respective­ly. Jayshan Haynes has been the primary threat for Enterprise with a record breaking 22 goals.

On the defensive end, Enterprise are owners of the second best record following only two concession­s. However, both have occurred in the eliminatio­n section during their previous two matches.

In the earlier third place playoff, Marian Academy will oppose North Georgetown at 14:00hrs. Meanwhile,

Redeemer will battle West Ruimveldt in the 5-6 section, while Ann’s Grove will oppose Soesdyke in the 7-8 division at 13:10hrs. In the 9-10 division, Timehri will face off against Den Amstel, whilst Winfer Garden engages Colaaco at 12:20hrs at the 11-12 pool.

In the 13-14 pool, Craig Primary battles Smith Memorial, while Tucville tackles Mocha in the 15-16 section at 11:30hrs.

The winner of the tournament will receive the championsh­ip trophy, gold medals and a pair of uniforms. Each player will also be presented with an electronic tablet.

The runners-up will collect a trophy, silver medals, and six balls while the third-place finishers will pocket a trophy and four balls and the fourth-place side will walk away with a trophy.

On the individual side, a trophy and a pair of football cleats will be presented to the eventual Most Valuable Player, Highest Goal Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper respective­ly.
