Frass Fridays marks fourth anniversary with mega concert

-

To celebrate its fourth year on the entertainment scene, Frass Fridays by Triniti Promotions will host a mega concert featuring over 30 local artists next Friday, November 25, at Sista P Ital Shop in Tiger Bay, Georgetown.

Promoter Jahmai Charles said there would also be dancehall clashes and guest performers. Prizes of US$300 and US$200 will be up for grabs in the dancehall clash and guest performer segments respectively. He explained that the guest performance will be hosted in three categories: dancehall, reggae and hip hop.

Jahmai had created Frass Fridays to give artists the much-needed platform to showcase their talents. Founded in November 2018, Frass Fridays is open to all Guyanese artists performing in any genre to rehearse along with their peers.

Frass Fridays returned live in August after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, during that time, entertainers were given the opportunity to promote their music on a virtual Facebook live platform.

It had been reported that on average, 70 artists showed up every Friday evening to work on their music as part of what is called Frass Friday Camp. Together they work with mentors in the music business and each other on their vocals, their vocabulary, how to deliver their music, how to write their music and whatever else is needed to prepare them to record.

The Frass team said that doing this is important for the artists to be the best they possibly can be. If they went ahead and recorded artists because they were only concerned with making money, the artists could easily fail. According to one mentor, failure at an early stage in someone’s music career could cause them to crumble and quit on making their dreams a reality.
