Around 250 house lots allocated at Burma
Around 250 persons were allocated residential house lots within the new Burma scheme that will soon be developed in Region Five.
This was done as part of the ‘Dream Realised’ Housing Drive hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Water’s Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA). The exercise was held at the MARDS, Complex, Burma Road, according to a press release from the ministry.
Housing Minister, Collin Croal told attendees that plans for a new scheme in Burma existed prior to 2015 but when the APNU+AFC administration came to power those plans were scrapped. However, this plan is once again moving forward. He noted that the necessary infrastructure for the housing scheme does not yet exist but asked that allottees be patient, explaining that funds to complete the housing scheme will be provided for in the 2023 National Budget.
The press statement disclosed that the new scheme is located east of the existing housing scheme and east of the main access road to the Burma Housing development. While the new scheme provides for residential, residential-commercial, industrial and other land use purposes, its main purpose will be to cater for four residential income categories; low, moderate, middle and high-income lots. Lands in the new development have also been earmarked for a recreational facility, and other social and infrastructural facilities.
It was also stated in the press release what while these allocations are being done the Ministry is simultaneously working on matching those with infrastructure development as a means of ensuring occupancy in those new schemes.
The release also said that Croal outlined other development plans for the region including the upgrading of water infrastructure.
In his remarks, Regional Chairman Vickchand Ramphal lauded the Ministry’s effort in delivering serviced lots to those who have been waiting for years. He said after much planning persons can now start the first phase of their homeownership process.
Over the past two years, the sum of $80 million was expended on infrastructure projects in region 5, benefitting some 1,615 residents.
