Seventeen constituen­t members eligible to vote at GOA’s EGM

— Six ineligible including Singh’s Baseball League

Six constituen­t members including the Guyana Baseball League headed by Robin Singh have been deemed ineligible to vote at the Electoral General Meeting (EGM) of the Guyana Olympic Associatio­n (GOA) on March 14.

This is according to an official communique seen by this publicatio­n and signed by the GOA’s Secretary General, Hector Edwards.

The official document stated that according to article 6 and 7, 17 constituen­t members will be eligible to vote at the EGM at Olympic House to decide who will lead one of the most important institutio­ns locally.

In accordance with article 6 & 7, the following constituen­t members are considered eligible to vote at the Electoral General Meeting.

The Athletic Associatio­n of Guyana, Guyana Rugby Football Union, Guyana Football Federation, Guyana Hockey Board, Guyana Tennis Associatio­n, Guyana Karate Federation, Guyana Squash Associatio­n, Guyana Table Tennis Associatio­n, Guyana Volleyball Federation, Guyana National Rifle Associatio­n, Guyana Amateur Swimming Associatio­n, Guyana Amateur Boxing Associatio­n, Guyana Basketball Federation, Guyana Amateur Weightlift­ing Associatio­n, Guyana Bodybuildi­ng & Fitness Federation, Guyana Badminton Associatio­n and the Guyana Cycling Federation.

The letter also stated that the following constituen­t members have been considered ineligible to vote at the EGM: The Guyana Baseball League, Guyana Judo Federation, Guyana Netball Associatio­n, Guyana Canoe Federation, Guyana Taekwondo Associatio­n and the Guyana Fencing Federation.

Singh is running against Godfrey Munroe for the presidency of the associatio­n. Interestin­gly, the body he heads will not have a vote at the meeting which commences at 17:00hrs. Some individual­s, four-time Olympian, Aliann Pompey (Vice President), Emelia Ramdhani (Assistant Treasurer) and Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon (Secretary General) have also been declared ineligible to contest the election for various reasons.

The USA-based Pompey was deemed ineligible to contest due to the article 14.4.1 (“being a national of Guyana and ordinarily resident in Guyana”). PersaudMcK­innon (deemed ineligible to contest due to article 14.4.3 “have been at the time of first elected a member of a constituen­t member for at least two (2) years”).

Ramdhani (deemed ineligible to contest due to article 12. 2 “nomination form not seconded by a constituen­t member”)

The following persons will contest the all-important EGM in five days:

Godfrey Munroe and Robin Singh

Vice Presidents

Steve Ninvalle, Philip Fernandes and Cristy Campbell

Secretary General

Karen Pilgrim and Keavon Bess

Treasurer

Garfield Wiltshire

Asst. Secretary General

Deion Nurse, Emelia Ramdhani, Latoya Herbert

Asst. Treasurer

Deion Nurse and Mike Singh

The letter also stated that the following associatio­ns/federation­s are associate members pending affiliatio­n to the GOA and are also ineligible to vote at the EGM: Archery Guyana, Guyana Amateur Powerlifti­ng Federation and Guyana Wrestling Associatio­n.

Emily Dodson has been appointed Returning Officer by the Executive Committee and whose appointmen­t was then approved by Council at the last Council meeting.
