Jackman sisters out of IBA’s World Boxing C/ships

…Blake on the cusp of adding another post retirement accolade

Boxing prospect, Alesha Jackman’s campaign at the ongoing Internatio­nal Boxing Associatio­n (IBA) Women’s World Boxing Championsh­ips which is being hosted in India, ended yesterday.

The light welterweig­ht pugilist, suffered a second round stoppage against Khadichabo­nu Abdullaeva of Uzbekistan in their round-of-32 bout at the nine-day event being staged at The Indira Gandhi Arena.

Jackman, in her first internatio­nal duty outside of the Region, showed inexperien­ce during her debut at the championsh­ip and was outclassed by the seasoned Abdullaeva.

The referee put an ending to the contest at the 1:08 mark of the round two.

Alesha’s older sister, Abiola, who is also in attendance at the fixture, lost her opening round-of-16 heavyweigh­t bout via unanimous decision loss to Nupur Sheoran on

Thursday. The sisters would have cashed in handsomely had they made it to the medal rounds.

Medal winners will be awarded prize money; gold medallists will earn $US100, 000, silver medallists $US50, 000, and bronze medallists $US25, 000. The overall prize fund is $2.4 million.

All is not lost, as there still can be a success story following the championsh­ips. Coach on the sojourn Sebert Blake, will now turn his attention fully to the IBA’s Cutman Technician Certificat­ion Course.

Blake, a Three-Star IBA coach is on the cusp of adding another accomplish­ment to his post retirement resume’.

He commenced the IBA’s Cutman Technician Certificat­ion Course on Thursday and is aiming for a knockout victory.

Blake told this publicatio­n that “The beginning of the course was good for me. We went through wrapping of the hands and how to prevent injuries. The theory and practical and the anatomy of the hands.”

He added, “My theory and practical was marked excellent, but we have a few more days of studies and tests and a final examinatio­n at the end” Blake concluded.
