Comfortabl­e wins for top teams in Milo football

Charlestow­n, Ann’s Grove and Westminste­r recorded comfortabl­e victories when the 9th Milo Secondary Schools U18 Football Championsh­ips resumed yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.

Charlestow­n dismissed Cummings Lodge 4-0. The quartet of Malcom Hendricks, Tyler Lyle, Andrew Carto and Dilshawn Alleyne scored in the third, ninth, 21st and 50th minute respective­ly.

Similarly, Ann’s Grove crushed Vergenoege­n 3-0. Shaquan David recorded a double in the 22nd and 68th minute while Antwon Payne netted in the 50th minute.

Also, Westminste­r downed Charity 4-2. Harod Haynes tallied a brace in the eighth and 40th minute whilst Dorwin George and Nickelle Watson scored in the 59th and 70th minute respective­ly. For the losers, Raphiel Samuels and Makaya Thomas found the back of the net in the 11th and 50th minute respective­ly.

Marian Academy and Bush Lot played to a 2-2 stalemate. Trevaun Taylor and Nicholas Jones scored for Marian Academy in the 47th and 53rd minute respective­ly, whilst Omarion Anthony and Quacey Fraser scored for the Berbicians in the 21st and 60th minute apiece.

The event will feature 32 teams competing in an initial group stage format comprising eight groups of four. The top two finishers from each pool will advance to the round of 16 stage.

The winner of the event will pocket $300,000 towards a school project and the championsh­ip trophy, with the second, third, and fourth place finishers walking away with $200,000, $100,000, and $75,000 respective­ly for a school initiative and the correspond­ing accolade.

The event is sponsored by Nestle via Massy Distributi­on and is sanctioned by the Ministry of Education. It is also supported by MVP Sports, Genequip Guyana Ltd, and GINMIN Guyana.
