Van Lange leads Guyana U19s past St Lucia

Guyana registered a perfect 2-0 record in the Boys U19 section, while the Boys U15 teams suffered mixed results respective­ly when the Caribbean Region Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) Junior Championsh­ip continued on Tuesday.

Staged at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, Guyana defeated St. Lucia 3-2 in their first match of the Boys U19 division. Jonathan Van Lange defeated Andre De Calderon 14-12, 11-8, and 11-5 in the first match, whilst Colin Wong defeated Rawson Harris 11-9, 11-6, and 11-8 to make it 2-0.

However, Krystian Sahadeo lost to Dawitt Nurse 11-5, 7-11, 11-13, and 8-11, and Wong also lost to De Calderon 5-11, 8-11, and 4-11 as St. Lucia equalized at 2-2. However, Van Lange downed Harris 11-, 5, 1210, and 11-4 to seal the contest.

In their second fixture in the pool, Guyana defeated Jamaica 3-1. Wong defeated Joel Butler 11-5, 8-11, 11-5, and 11-6 before Van Lange defeated Azizi Johnson 11-9, 11-6, and 11-3 to make it 2-0. Umar Percival lost to

Conroy Henry 9-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9, and 6-11, as Jamaica reduced the deficit.

Nonetheles­s, Van Lange secured the outcome, as he bested Butler 117, 11-9, and 11-8.

In the Boys U15 pool, Guyana defeated Barbados 3-0. Malachi Moore defeated Riquelme Green 113, 11-8, and 11-3, Ebo McNeil defeated Mdjai Collymore 11-7, 115, and 11-3, and Darius Daniels defeated Ajani Gittens 11-6, 11-5, and 11-5.

In their second outing, Guyana lost to Trinidad and Tobago 2-3. McNeil defeated Gabriel John 11-5, 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, and 13-11. However, Moore lost to Malik Gopaul 9-11, 9-11, and 9-11, and Chase Outar lost to Josiah Joseph 111, 2-11, and 3-11 as Trinidad and Tobago seized a 2-1 lead.

Moore then defeated John 13-11, 13-11, and 12-10 to level the score at 2-2. However, McNeil lost to Gopaul 11-8, 14-12, and 11-5 in the final match.

In the Girls U19 section, Guyana lost to Trinidad and Tobago 0-3. Akira Watson lost to Priyanka Khellawan 1-11, 2-11, and 8-11, whilst Thuraia Thomas went down to Imani Taylor-Edwards 4-11, 3-11, and 3-11, and Shakecy Damon lost to Yzabelle Morris 4-11, 7-11, and 511.
