Squash Association shortlists players for development
——upon conclusion of Kraft Heinz junior competition
Demetrius De Abreu, Zachary Persaud, Safirah Sumner and Ethan Bulkan all played unbeaten to win their respective categories when the curtains came down on the Kraft Heinz Junior Squash Tournament Monday evening after seven days of competition at the Georgetown Club.
De Abreu won Category A the Cheesiest with Shiloh Asregado finishing in the runner up spot while Kirsten Gomes placed third.
Category B Spiral was won by Persaud, who came out ahead of Chad De Abreu, second and Saeed Sattur, third.
Sumner was the winner of Category C Three-Cheese with Justin Ten-Pow securing second place and Jeremy Ten-Pow third.
Category D Thick and Creamy was won by Blake Edwards with Nandishraj Singh and Malia Maikoo finishing second and third respectively.
The final category E White Cheddar saw Bulkan winning from Zion Hikerson and Jacob McDonald.
The Most Promising boy and girls’ titles went to Malia Maikoo and Richard Rodrigues respectively while the “Heart of a Champion” award was won by Zion Hickerson.
Tournament Director Deje Dias said over 30 players took part in the championship which served as a scouting event for the
National Junior Squad.
Meanwhile, The GSA has shortlisted 13 boys and 9 girls and 11 younger players for the Developmental squad.
Reigning Under-17 Caribbean champion is among three players named in the Boys Under-19 squad with the other two players
being Michael Alphonso and Demetrius De Abreu.
Boys Under-17 are Louis Da Silva, Mohryan Baksh, Shiloh Asregado, Joshua Verwey, Chad De Abreu, Jeremy Ten Pow and Demetri Lowe while Boys Under-15 are Richard Rodrigues, Brenno Da Silva and Avian
Wade.
Boys Under-13 – Justin Ten Pow, Matthew Daby, Kaiden Ali, Benjamin Phang and Jabob McDonald. Boys Under-11 – Jibril Ali, Ethan Bulkan and Zion Hickerson.
The girls shortlisted are: Under-19 Kristen Gomes, Under17
Safriah Sumner, Rylee Rodrigues. Under-15 Avery Arjoon, Malia Maikoo, Emily Fung-a-Fat and Jnae Singh.
Under-13 – Kaylee Lowe and Tianna Gomes and Under-11 Zoe McDonald, Amaya Lynch, Tehani Munroe and Fola Cadogan.
