Santa Rosa, Chase Academy to contest Milo final
Santa Rosa and Chase Academy will contest the final of the 9th Milo Secondary School Football Championship on Sunday evening following semi-final wins yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Santa Rosa overcame Carmel 2-1. It was an evening of penalty kicks as three were awarded by the presiding official in front of a large crowd which descended on the venue.
Darius Williams opened the scoring for Santa Rosa in the 14th minute after being awarded the penalty for an infraction inside the 18-yard area. Williams would make no mistake from the distance as he slotted his effort beyond the opposing goalkeeper into the right side.
The score would remain unchanged heading into the halftime interval. However, Carmel equalized through Eon Daniels in the 74th minute. Awarded a penalty kick for a clumsy challenge inside the left of the box, Daniels would have his initial strike denied by the goalkeeper, only to latch onto the rebound and finish into the back of the net.
The first time participants would not be denied the result, as Williams completed his double in the 86th minute, converting once again from the penalty spot into the top right corner, after being awarded a penalty for a hand-ball infringement.
In the other semifinal, Chase Academy dismissed Mackenzie High 3-0. Matrim Martin, Seon Cato, and Chai Williams scored in the 12th, 18th and 33rd minute respectively.
The losing semi-finalists will compete in the third place playoff. The winner of the event will pocket $300,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy, with the second, third, and fourth place finishers walking away with $200,000, $100,000, and $75,000 respectively for a school initiative and the corresponding accolade.
The event is sponsored by Nestle (Milo) via Massy Distribution. It is sanctioned by the Ministry of Education and supported by the Guyana Football Federation. The other sponsors are GINMIN, GENEQUIP, and MVP Sports.
