The Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) under its Pepsi brand renewed its sponsorship agreement with the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) for the 12th year yesterday.

During a press briefing at DDL’s headquarters in Diamond, Schemel Patrick, Brand Communications Manager of the company presented a sponsorship cheque worth in excess of $1M to representatives of the association.

The kind gesture signaled the renewed partnership for DDL and the GBA for 2023 for the staging of Mike Parris U-16 programme first staged in 2011.

Last year, the GBA which won the NSC’s Association-of the-Year award, hosted 16 Mike Parris U-16 tournaments.

According to Patrick, DDL has been “a faithful partner to the GBA for the past 11 years and we are happy to be onboard once again.”

Patrick stated that the company is always eager to flex their corporate muscle when it comes to the advancement of youth in the participation of sports.

She wished the GBA and its boxers well in their endeavors and concluded by reiterating DDL’s support for young sportsmen and women in the 592.

Technical Director of the GBA, Terrence Poole MS, thanked DDL for being a long standing benefactor and added that the tournament has birthed several champions which included IBA ranked sisters, Abiola and Alesha Jackman who were in attendance.

Poole then encouraged other entities to take a leaf out of DDL’s book and cultivate a committed relationship with the

association in an effort to support the discipline which has garnered Guyana’s lone Olympic medal.

Meanwhile, GBA’s Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Seon Bristol, stated that the association is “tremendously grateful and thankful for Pepsi being

onboard.” He added that, “Out of good business comes lifetime friendship and relationships.

We have gained a lifetime partner with DDL and I would like to thank them, we will continue to pick fruits from the tree you have planted with us.”

Bristol joked that the easiest thing to do is to copy and like Poole, urged other businesses to copy DDL’s stance in the corner of the GBA. The GBA staged its first U-16 tournament on April 2 and is set to host another one on April 30.
