Ahead of Bud­get 2018: PPP/C details ‘to do list’ for gov’t

tak­ing of­fice, the A Part­ner­ship for Na­tional Unity and Al­liance For Change (APNU+AFC) Coali­tion gov­ern­ment has ig­nored the po­lit­i­cal Op­po­si­tion’s calls for sev­eral tech­ni­cal doc­u­ments to be avail­able ahead of bud­get con­sul­ta­tions – the same be­ing the case with ‘con­sul­ta­tions’ on Bud­get 2018.

The Peo­ple’s Pro­gres­sive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) point per­sons on fi­nance used tyres; the re­moval of the ban on im­por­ta­tion of ve­hi­cles older than 8 years to re­turn to im­por­ta­tion of ve­hi­cles un­der 12 years; the im­plemen­tation of the PPP/ C Cit­i­zen Se­cu­rity Plan; the po­lit­i­cal man­age­ment of SOCU to stop, and, for the Unit to re­vert to its orig­i­nal man­date un­der the AMLCFT Act and un­der the di­rect con­trol of the Guyana Po­lice Force; the re­peal the State As­sets Re­cov­ery Act or min­i­mall y r emove t he sec­tions which are un­con­sti­tu­tional with ref­er­ence to the pow­ers of the Direc­tor as well as sec­tions that tar­get the pri­vate sec­tor and i ndi­vid­u­als in vi­o­la­tion of the con­sti­tu­tion.

The mo­tion states that its 124 ac­tion points do not rep­re­sent and ex­haus­tive list, but “their im­plemen­tation is crit­i­cal to the cre­ation of an en­vi­ron­ment more con­ducive t o t he growth and ex­pan­sion of the econ­omy, the cre­ation of jobs, send­ing the right sig­nals to the pri­vate sect or, and, i mprov­ing t he wel­fare of its peo­ple.”

The mo­tion is signed by Op­po­si­tion Chief Whip, Gail Teix­eira, and Op­po­si­tion Par­lia­men­tar­ian, Ir­faan Ali.
