La hermana menor de Roatán, es la más pequeña de las islas que componen el departamento de Islas de la Bahía, sus atractivos principales radican en el buceo y una vida nocturna de primera. Son muchos los nacionales e internacionales que viajan hasta este lugar para certificarse en buceo y pasarla bien. Es apodada la “Perla del Caribe” y su extensión territorial es bastante pequeña, solamente 11.2 km de largo por 3 km de ancho, es por esto que su principal forma de transporte es caminando y de esta manera es como se llega a todos lados, incluso la mayor parte de la isla está deshabitada, East Harbor es el único pueblo que existe en toda la isla y es comúnmente llamado Utila. El buceo es la mayor atracción ya que la ubicación privilegiada de la isla, justo al borde del arrecife mesoamericano, el segundo arrecife de coral vivo más grande del mundo, lo que permite ver el famoso tiburón ballena Rhincodon typus, el pez más grande del mundo. Este tiburón puede ser apreciado durante todo el año, es por esto que las diversas tiendas de buceo anuncian su avistamiento. Llegar a Utila es muy fácil, una de las mejores maneras es utilizando el servicio de ferry de Utila Dream que zarpa desde La Ceiba hacia Utila en los horarios de 9:00 AM y 4:40 PM y desde Utila hacia La Ceiba en los horarios de 7:00 AM y 3:20 PM, de la misma manera puede buscar las diversas ofertas aéreas en dirección a la isla. El lempira es la moneda oficial de la isla y la de mayor uso, pero lo recomendable es cambiar el lempira por el dólar para disfrutar de la isla sin ninguna interrupción. Utila es el lugar perfecto para un fin de semana o incluso más, de hecho hay muchos turistas que deciden mudarse y embarcar su nueva vida en esta hermosa isla.
