UTILA is bay islands SMALLEST island, YOU CAN walk TROUGH it.
Utila is one of the main islands of the department of Islas de la Bahía (Bay Islands), it is the smallest of the islands and its main attractions are diving and the exciting nightlife it offers. There are thousands of people who travel from different parts of the country and the world to be certified in diving. It is popularly known as the “Caribbean Rose” and its territorial extension is quite small, only 11.2 km long and 3 kms wide. Thanks to Utila´s small size, the main form of transportation on the island is to walk, that’s how you get everywhere. Something very interesting about the island is most of it is uninhabited, which makes it even a more paradisiacal destination. East Harbor is the only town that exists on the entire island and is commonly called Utila. Diving is the biggest attraction of this place since the privileged location of the island is difficult to beat. It is located right on the edge of the Mesoamerican reef, the second largest living coral reef in the world, making it possible to see the famous whale shark Rhincodon typus, the largest fish in the world. This shark can be appreciated throughout the year and for this reason several dive shops announce their sighting. Getting to Utila is very easy and the best way to do it is using the Utila Dream ferry service that departs from La Ceiba to Utila from Monday to Sunday at the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:40 PM and from Utila to La Ceiba from Monday to Sunday at the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:20 PM. There is also a ferry that departs from Roatán to Utila from Monday to Sunday at 2:00 PM and from Utila to Roatán from Monday to Sunday at 10:15 AM. This service is really premium so it is the most recommended. You can also search the different airlines deals to get there. Utila is the perfect place for a weekend, a week, or even to embark on a new life.
