Honduras, a five star country

- Nicole Marrder Honduras Ministry of Tourism

Honduras, a five star country! Our country has a unique name with many theories from where it came from, such as that of Christopher Columbus who is believed exclaimed,“thank God we have left these Honduras”, when he left the Coasts. Others say it was Bartolomé de las Casas who gave it its name. Whatever the true story is, what we do know is that in the depths of its oceans we find an impressive marine world, and in the depths of its forests, countless species of both flora and fauna.

Honduras has 5 star tourism activities: diving that can be practiced in Bay islands, each with a special and different essence, where the quality of its people wraps us in an atmosphere of total relaxation. The light breeze from the sea and its white sand beaches invites to enjoy ourselves and have a total disconnection. Swimming with the whale shark on the island of Utila is a unique experience, or diving in the warm waters of our emerald Caribbean where we will find the most varied and beautiful colors of fish, and what about our majestic corals, an adventure for diving enthusiasts.

The archaeological and cultural activities with its imposing Mayan Ruins transport us to a world full of magic and mysticism. A civilization that, today, continues to amaze us with its contributions to science, mathematics and astronomy. Copán Ruins where the Archaeological Park of Copán is based, hosts the Sacred Valley of the Macaw, our national bird, symbol of our identity. A town where time seems to have stopped, full of friendly, simple and hardworking people. For nature lovers, what a more perfect option than La Ceiba, where you can not only go into the rainforest, but also visit Cuero y Salado, see the Manati, Raft in the Cangrejal River where you can experience pure adrenaline and also experience the gastronomic offer, rich in options of dishes that come from the sea.

The colonial cities are a faithful reflection of our rich past of Spanish origin, where the churches, in Gracias, Lempira: La Campa, San Manuel de Colohete, and the Cathedrals in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and Choluteca, the minor Basilica in Suyapa are faithful witnesses to the faith of our Honduran people, offering something new such as that of religious tourism.

The South is an enchanted place with a special warmth of the area and a rich and varied gastronomic offer, very different than that from the Caribbean. Here the sunsets are a spectacle. You can also enjoy a boat ride through the mangroves of San Lorenzo and the Gulf of Fonseca, which offer a unique experience .

Honduras has so much to offer, new destinations that are ready to welcome you with open arms assuring you a wonderful stay to enjoy either with friends or family: The Jewel of the Lakes, the Lenca Maya Route, the Valleys and Mountains District and the area of the Pampas Olanchanas with the development of various new activities.
