La Escalinata de los Jeroglíficos es considerada el tesoro más importante y conocido de la ciudad maya. La escalinata tiene más de 2,000 jeroglíficos y es el documento más largo que hasta ahora se ha encontrado de la cultura maya. El texto cuenta la historia de cada uno de los reyes y también de su calendario, ya que los mayas siempre marcaban el tiempo de cuando algo era escrito. También hay evidencias y representaciones de sus dioses, las historias y leyendas.
