Sitio arqueológico el rastrojón
El sitio arqueológico Rastrojón, nombre que según los investigadores en lengua maya significa “Cerro del Jaguar, o Cerro del Jaguar Precioso”, está ubicado a dos kilómetros al noroeste del Parque Arqueológico de Copán y se estima que fue fundado hace unos 1,300 años por ciudadanos de la nobleza y militares mayas. Los antiguos mayas construyeron dos impresionantes grupos arquitectónicos de residencias. Uno de ellos ha estado en continua investigación desde su descubrimiento. Posee edificios con habitaciones construidas con bloques de piedra canteada. La ubicación del sitio, en un lugar estratégico en el valle de Copán, unido al material arqueológico (puntas de lanza y flechas) y los temas escultóricos, sugieren que Rastrojón fue un lugar diseñado para la defensa de la ciudad durante el tiempo de mayor conflicto político del reino de Copán y para honrar la memoria de uno de los gobernantes más importantes en la historia dinástica de la ciudad de K´inch Yax Kúk´ Mo´. Rastrojon archeological site, a name that according to the Mayan-language researchers means “Cerro del Jaguar, or Cerro del Jaguar Precioso”, which means Mountain of the Precious Jaguar, is located two kilometers Northwest of the Archaeological Park of Copán Ruins and it is estimated that it was founded about 1,300 years by citizens of the nobility and Mayan military.
