A marine- influenced classic is reworked for the athletic urban male
A stalwart of Corum’s watch collections since it was first revealed in 1960, the Admiral – as its name suggests – has long been notable for its maritime associations. Some eight years ago, however, the release of the Admiral’s Cup AC- One 45 Chronograph introduced new elements of sporting masculinity – and in 2019 a further revamp injected a sense of urban sportiness to the chronograph’s persona.
For a start, the Admiral’s Cup AC- One 45 Chronograph’s dodecagonal bezel has received a more angular treatment, while the placing of a pair of titanium inserts between the bezel and the case represents a play on both colour and material. The dial, too, has been simplified for a cleaner and more contemporary look, with a “Grenadier Fendu” motif and a contrasting trio of subdials giving a “reverse panda” effect, while the placing of the Corum logo at 12 o’clock enhances brand visibility; the 12 nautical pennants that are signatures of the Admiral watch appear in outline on the bezel flange.
Powered by the self- winding Calibre CO 132 with a 42- hour reserve, whose superb finishing is is visible through the screw- down, openworked caseback, the Admiral’s Cup ACOne 45 Chronograph is available with either a black or white dial; the former comes in either rose gold or titanium with black PVD and the latter either in rose gold or titanium. The watch is completed by a vulcanised rubber strap with triple folding clasp, though a bracelet in either rose gold or titanium is also available.
