THE ARTIST EDWARD BURNE- JONES THE DESTINATION LONDON NINETEENTH CENTURY BRITAIN

was a time of industrialisation and economic progress – but its cities were, as a result, pretty bleak and grubby. The artist Edward Burne-Jones sought his solace in the beautifully imagined worlds of fairytales, Greek mythology and medieval history. This month, Tate Britain celebrates his legacy with an exhibition of over 150 works, including his tapestry Adoration of the Magi (above) and The Doom Fulfilled ( left), depicting Andromeda and the demi- god Perseus. servicemen, Albany, southeast of Perth, was their last sight of Australian shores after setting sail for the battlefields of the First World War. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of hostilities, British artist Bruce Munro has created Field of Light: Avenue of Honour (above). The installation comprises 16,000 glowing spheres, referencing the national flowers of Australia and New Zealand, and pays homage to the 41,000 troops from both countries who set off from these shores 100 years ago. Munro’s other Field of Light, at Uluru, will be visible until 2020.
