Programmes that aim to ease the worries of nervous flyers 如果乘搭飛機令你感到緊張,以下節目可以安撫你的不安情緒

Flying has become the most popular way to travel today. But it’s also true that flying can be a stressful experience for many travellers. Anxiety from fear of flying can manifest as quickened breathing, insomnia and sweating. In an effort to help, we have curated several programmes that might ease those fears.

In our Explore section, you’ll find programmes with tips and exercises for staying healthy during your flight. One of those comes from Headspace, a company that specialises in online guided meditation and mindfulness programmes. Andy Puddicombe and Rich Pierson launched Headspace in 2010 as an events company, but later brought their techniques to the internet as guided meditation videos and a mobile app.

Our Headspace selection covers a wide range of videos for nervous travellers. They include a basic introduction to meditation, as well as videos that target specific symptoms. Having trouble sleeping? Watch the video with tips on how to sleep while seated. If it’s jetlag you’re worried about, there’s a video with tips on beating the effects of time difference. And there’s a video for anxious parents travelling with children, too.

For Chinese speakers, we also have a mindfulness exercise podcast from Hong Kong’s New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association. Designed by clinical psychologists, the exercises aim to relieve stress by encouraging listeners to become more aware of their surroundings through meditation, breathing and body scans (the practice of paying attention to how your body feels). There’s even an exercise that helps you enjoy your inflight meal more.

For some travellers, perhaps the reassuring words of a professional will be enough to ease flight jitters. Cathay Pacific flight instructor Miki Katz is here to help with his podcast This is the Captain Speaking. Katz brings his decades of professional knowledge and experience to the table as he explains the steps that flight crews take to ensure your safety onboard.

But perhaps you prefer a comedy to lighten your mood. This month is Chinese New Year, and one of Hongkongers’ favourite activities during this holiday is to get together and watch films, especially comedies. Get in the festive mood with our selection of blockbuster comedies featuring Stephen Chow, Hong Kong’s undisputed king of comedy for nearly three decades. In addition to classic Chinese New Year comedy All’s Well, Ends Well, we also have From Beijing With Love, Forbidden City Cop and The Lucky Guy.
