A HONG KONG KIND OF MARCH
It’s art and food month: see, eat, repeat
IT’S ALL ABOUT taste this month – both the aesthetic and the digestible kinds.
Let’s begin with art: From Abba to Zappa (1) (until 10 March) exhibits 1970s musical legends shot by photographer Gijsbert Hanekroot at Sheung Wan’s Blue Lotus Gallery; while German painter Neo Rauch’s surreal figurative paintings go on show at David Zwirner gallery in H Queen’s (26 March-4 May). Then swing by three blockbuster events:
Art Basel (2) (29-31 March),
Asia Contemporary Art Show (29 March-1 April) and
Art Central (3) (27-31 March).
Not to your taste? How about a chorus of musicians from around the region performing at the Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Festival
(22 March). Or catch a critically acclaimed film at the Hong Kong International Film Festival (18 March onwards).
You can’t talk about taste without mentioning food. Head to Taste of Hong Kong (4) (21-24 March) at Central Harbourfront for tasty morsels from the city’s top chefs and restaurants. Or swing by new openings like Soho’s Hotal Colombo (classic Sri Lankan flavours with modern flair);
Homeslice (5) (cool vibes and Neapolitan pizza in Sai Ying Pun); contemporary Chinese cuisine at IFC’s Shè (honeyglazed char siu – roast pork – and harbour views, anyone?); or Japanese noodle import
Ramen Cubism (6) in Central.
We’re also gearing up for the
Hong Kong Sevens (7) (5-7 April) with art installations (23 March-7 April) and fun rugbythemed games at the Sevens booth (29 March-7 April) in Causeway Bay’s Lee Gardens area; and tasty egglettes, arty activities, installations and live music at Lee Gardens Eggssentially Art! 2019 (3031 March). Fanwalk at Lee Gardens (5-7 April) also has live broadcasts of games, fun challenges and food stalls.
Still not had your fill? Try the electrifying Formula E Hong Kong ePrix (10 March); the blooming brilliant Flower Show in Victoria Park (15-24 March); or the St Patrick’s Day Central Harbourfront parade and the Irish Village in Cyberport (17 March).
