03 THE DESIGN STRIPED HOUSE THE DESTINATION QINHUANGDAO

IT’S NOT OFTEN that a tourist centre becomes a tourist attraction – but that’s exactly the case in the Chinese port city of Qinhuangdao. Inspired by the coastal location, Shanghai architecture studio Wutopia Lab revamped Aranya tourism company’s office into the new tourist information centre – rechristened Striped House – adding Instagrammable blue and white stripes and porthole-style windows.

04 THE SPECTACLE SPECTER THE DESTINATION COACHELLA VALLEY

APRIL IS USUALLY when the wildflowers are in full bloom in California’s Coachella Valley – but this month, you’ll also see pops of colour like this giant orange installation by American artist Sterling Ruby entitled Specter. It’s part of the Desert X biennial art festival that sees around 20 colourful artworks scattered in the desert between Palm Springs and the Mexican border.
