LANDSCAPE WITH INVISIBLE HAND
Science fiction meets satire in Landscape with Invisible Hand, an alien invasion story with a difference. Humans are facing mass unemployment thanks to the economic “innovations” of their new alien rulers, the Vuuv. To help their struggling families, teenager Adam (Asante Blackk) and his girlfriend Chloe (Kylie Rogers) capitalise on the Vuuv’s fascination with human romance and livestream their relationship. The pair quickly become an internet sensation – but when they fall out of love, they’re forced to come up with a new, far riskier plan.
ALL THAT BREATHES
From their makeshift clinic in New Delhi, brothers Nadeem and Saud nurse injured black kites – birds of prey which have long roamed the skies but are now threatened by environmental changes. In the documentary All That Breathes, director Shaunak Sen looks at the impact of human activity on Delhi’s ecosystem and the relationship between Nadeem, Saud and the birds they rescue. Sen’s patience in portraying his subjects – gathering hundreds of hours of footage over several years – results in many unexpected moments of beauty that make this a mesmerising watch. TEN PERCENT In this British remake of the hit French series Call My Agent, the staff of London talent agency Nightingale Hart work tirelessly to meet the needs of their celebrity clientele. But when the sudden death of the agency’s founder Richard Nightingale (Jim Broadbent) lays bare its financial troubles, his son Jonathan (Jack Davenport) reluctantly agrees to merge the firm with an LA-based agency, sparking office-wide panic about all things American. Expect plenty of witty, selfdeprecating humour and cameos from top British talent like David Oyelowo and Helena Bonham Carter.
EVERYPHONE EVERYWHERE
In exploring the impact of technology on our lives, director Amos Why avoids the sinister route and opts for a light-hearted comedy of errors. In Everyphone Everywhere, three old friends have agreed to meet up after 25 years, only Chit (Endy Chow) has left his phone at home, Raymond’s (Peter Chan) WhatsApp account has been hacked and Ana (Rosa Maria Velasco) is being pestered by a scammer. Gradually, their storylines converge, until they at last end up in the same room and find what has been evading them: real connection.
