Wide range of business zones
With a number of industrial zones and parks catering to investors from various industries and countries, Foshan is a preferred destination for investment in the Pearl River Delta region, said a local trade and investment official.
Zhou Zhitong, director-general of Foshan’s foreign trade and economic cooperation bureau, cited the Foshan HighTech Industries Development Zone, the Foshan Sino-German Industrial Services Zone and the Guangdong High-Tech Service Zone for Financial Institutions as well as others.
With a planned area of 10 square kilometers, the Foshan High-Tech Industries Development Zone is on its way to becoming a powerhouse for innovation.
The zone has seen rapid development in the sectors of optical displays, autos and their components, new lighting, biomedicines, new energy, new materials, advanced equipment, household appliances and IT.
The Sino-German industrial services zone founded in 2012 has a planned area of 26 sq km. Designed as a site with management standards and a business environment similar to industrial parks in Germany, the zone targets companies working in R&D, design, testing, certification, conventions and exhibitions, and vocational training services for local hightech businesses.
The service zone for financial institutions, located in the city’s Nanhai district, has a planned area of 18 sq km.
It offers a base for privateequity and venture capital companies that mainly serve the high-tech industries in Foshan, as well as the entire province, and is an important part of Guangdong’s capital market.
“Investors also have many more industrial parks to choose from in the city’s various districts of Chancheng, Nanhai, Shunde, Sanshui and Gaoming,” he said.
Only 16 km from the provincial capital Guangzhou, Foshan shares the massive infrastructure of its cosmopolitan neighbor including ports, railway stations, an international airport as well as China’s first intercity metro line.
The city is also easily linked to other Pearl River Delta cities including Hong Kong and Macao, which are both about a two-hour drive away.
