Detainee’s death in Guilin investigated

Police in Guilin are investigating the death of a detainee in Yangshuo county’s detention center, Xinhua reported Sunday. Local media reported Yangshuo police allegedly compensated the detainee’s family 900,000 yuan ($148,300) and asked family members “not to publicize” the case. The detainee, suspected of theft, died one day after being hospitalized on Dec 17.
