Wolfgang Bernhard’s exit may hurt Daimler hard
Wolfgang Bernhard, head of Daimler trucks and buses, will leave the company with immediate effect at his own request, the maker of the vehicles said on Feb 10, confirming earlier media reports by magazine Der Spiegel and German news agency DPA. Bernhard’s contract was set to expire in February 2018. His resignation comes unexpectedly. A decision on extending his contract was to be made in the coming weeks, according to DPA. Microsoft announced the appointment of Microsoft (Asia) Internet Engineering Dean Wang Yongdong, as a global senior vice-president. Wang joined Microsoft in 2009 and was the founder of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group in Beijing. He took on the additional role of managing director of Applications & Services Group East Asia, which is rapidly growing into a major development hub for Microsoft Applications and Services Group. Wang has a PhD in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Shigenori Shiga quits as Toshiba chief after big loss
Toshiba chairman Shigenori Shiga resigned hours after the Japanese conglomerate revealed details of a multibillion dollar loss last week. Earlier, Toshiba had delayed issuing its results, but then said it was set to report a net loss of 390 billion yen ($3.4 billion) for the year to March 2017. The company said it expected to take a 712.5 billion yen writedown at its US nuclear business. The situation has led some analysts to warn the company’s future is at risk. Shiga was stepping down “to take management responsibility for the loss”, the firm said. Tanna to rise in PwC as Dalal floats boutique firm
Ketan Dalal, western regional managing partner with PwC India and one of the top tax advisors in the country, resigned from the firm on Feb 13. Dalal, who quit PwC after almost a decade, will start his own boutique advisory firm. Bimal Tanna, a deals partner based in Mumbai, is set to replace Dalal, a senior tax partner with PwC since 2007. He and tax stalwart Dinesh Kanabar were with PwC when it merged with Indian firm RSM. ANZ wealth unit elevates Mark Rider to key post
ANZ has a new investment chief for its local wealth management business, with Mark Rider promoted to the role after four years in a senior position at the bank. In a statement, ANZ said Rider would serve as chief investment officer for its Wealth Australia arm from March 10. He assumes the position vacated by Stewart Brentnall after five years, with the outgoing executive to take up another CIO role in Australia. ANZ did not disclose the name of that company. Rider, a former economist at UBS and the Reserve Bank, joined ANZ in 2013 as head of investment strategy and asset allocation.
