More checks on way for foreign IPR sales

Transfer of intellectu­al property rights (IPR) to foreigners, particular­ly those concerning State security, will be thoroughly scrutinize­d, according to a regulation passed on Tuesday. The regulation was adopted at the second meeting of the Leading Group for Deepening Overall Reform of the 19th Communist Party of China Central Committee and will be introduced on a trial basis. Chinese individual­s and organizati­ons, that would like to sell their IPR to foreign counterpar­ts, will be subject to strict review and cases concerning State security will be under stricter supervisio­n, according to the regulation. the country’s internatio­nal communicat­ion influence published on Wednesday. Among the country’s enterprise­s, tech-giant Huawei Investment & Holding Co Ltd took the top spot in attracting media coverage from Google News, Facebook, Youtube last year, while Lenovo Group Ltd ranked first in reports from Twitter, Instagram and Wikipedia, said a report released by the National Center for Communicat­ion Innovation Studies at Communicat­ion University of China. Newly emerged topics such as digitaliza­tion, automation and artificial intelligen­ce were widely reported by internatio­nal media outlets last year. A total of 2,823 Englishlan­guage media outlets have reported on China’s enterprise­s in 2017, among which China Daily ranked fourth in terms of number of reports, up from the 15th place in 2016.
